Let me list off a few things that the forest launched into early access with: This game is in early access and will most likely receive the same treatment as the original had meaning biweekly/monthly updates and sincere community engagement by devs as to what the players want. The version of the forest you remember was a fully fleshed out and polished game. If you're building a game where items are unique (example, u can't craft a shovel, you have to finish 4 caves in sequence to get it), then at least give me an item description so I know what it's good for. I have to google every single thing to keep going with the story, because everything is hard locked for items that I will never find because they're 3 walking hours away and once I reach them I'll have no clue where I should use it. I've been playing for 20 hours and I didn't find one god damn battery since the start of the game. In the SOTF, supplies are no where to be seen, its just rocks and sticks, rocks and sticks, rocks and fking sticks like dudeee, is it that hard to throw in a battery here and there. I've spent about 50 hours in the original so I'm not an expert but correct me if im wrong, in the original I could walk 10 meters in one direction and find some supplies, an interesting camp with different enemies, I had a general sensation that I was doing good. Does anyone else feel the same? Are we just somehow missing all the good stuff? I do hope to spark some discussion though. No spoilers please, as we’re still just getting started. There doesn’t seem to be much to build in the order of defenses against the cannibals, but I’m sure I’ve got to be missing something here? On a different note, the new building system is being highly praised, yet we’ve found ourselves preferring the old one. Some are just 10 feet of cave, leading to buildings that require a keycard we haven’t come across (don’t spoil the location please!) Granted we have only explored 60-70% of the map, I am left with feeling somewhat of a bored feeling. The 5-7 caves we have come across all are very bare bones and empty, with usually only a few crates to be broken inside. There are only very small cannibal establishments that seem to be more of small camps then actual places for them to live. The caves also seem to be much more in depth, and gave you a sense of “dude i’m so scared to go around this corner.” The map is large, yet seems relatively empty. In the original game, there were large villages with something interesting in most parts of the map ie the sinkhole, the yacht, etc. Yes I realize it’s in early access, but after about 6-8 hours with up to 5 friends I think we’ve mutually been having this thought. The game also features a co-op mode that brings in even more challenges. As someone who has spent countless hours in the original The Forest, I have been feeling that the new game is somewhat empty. You can grab the game with a 50% discount during Steam's Winter Sale for a limited time. The Forest is still one of the brilliant survival horror games that has received mostly positive reviews from players on Steam and reviewers on various outlets. Similar to the original game, the sequel will allow you to follow various paths in the island and find out the mysteries.Īs shown in the trailer, despite being populated by some disgusting cannibals, there are some strong signs of human living in the island as the player discovers some modern houses.Ĭurrently, there is no clue which platforms will be a target for Sons of The Forest, but apparently it will be available on PC as the original game hit Steam earlier than other platforms.Įndnight Games is aiming to launch Sons of The Forest next year, which means we are going to see more of the game in the coming months. However, the island has so much secrets that need to be discovered. The same as The Forest, in Sons of The Forest you have to fight against zombie-like Cannibals and build yourself a safe and sturdy home to survive.
